Who we are
Blessings in a Backpack of the Lehigh Valley (BIAB-LV) is the Lehigh Valley based chapter of the national organization, Blessings in a Backpack. Founded in 2016 by lifelong Lehigh Valley resident, Jessica Schwartz, BIAB-LV is a hybrid of private sector funding and public partnerships carried out in elementary schools to help fight food insecurity and hunger issues on a more personal, local level.
The BIAB-LV program service is provided at no cost to the school districts. Specific attention is given to school districts who may not receive substantial government funding supporting food insecurity needs, and where students are more likely to fall in the cracks of the system.
BIAB-LV works closely with each school district to determine need and craft a plan of action that best fits the needs for both ease and privacy of distribution. In the 2025-2026 school year, BIAB-LV supports over 150 students across four elementary schools.
